As we are getting ready to close out 2024 and ring in 2025, I’d like to share the details of the work we did together in helping those in need along the South Coast with our free clothing program.

In 2024 we held 41 free shopping events that provided free clothing assistance to 1,599 people. These events were held at food pantries, shelters, family resource centers and other locations. They include Walt’s own hosted events – The Essential Women’s Event serving underserved women, and our Back-to-School event. Both events will take place again in 2025, along with two additional Walt’s hosted events that are in the works.

Our work also helps our community partners with individual clothing support through agency referrals. Agency staff reach out to Walt’s on behalf of a member or enrollee who needs clothing. These folks are homeless, in a recovery program, are formerly incarcerated or just need a helping hand. In 2024 we assisted 395 individuals through our agency referral program. These requests can include a single item such as a blanket or winter coat, or a full bag of clothing and toiletries. In some cases, we don’t have what’s needed and we reach out to our Facebook supporters for help. 100% of the time these requests were fulfilled.

In total, we assisted 1,994 people along the South Coast with free clothing assistance in 2024. We didn’t do that without the assistance of our supporters and our community partners who are on the front lines. Our 3 clothing drop spots Gleason Family YMCA, New Again and Marion Council on Aging Offices. And our volunteers who work hard to make this all happen and create a space of warmth and acceptance for all who come to Walt’s. We thank all of you for sharing this work of human compassion, connection, love and light. We are honored to stand with you…..let’s keep going.
